Simplified Kind of Life

Life….Simplified!

Focus On Change

Image

For the last nine days, I have been taking a good look at what I want to change about my life.  I’ve researched several different ideas on what is supposed to make life meaningful, how to be a better person, how to live a more exciting life and a myriad of goal setting techniques and such.  The problem is I’m a scanner.  I like to learn just enough about anything…just enough to make me dangerous.  I also do not finish most projects that I start because I either get side tracked by another project or I just plain get bored.  My fiance and several of my friends say that I remind them of the dog on “UP”.  If you don’t know the movie then you may not…Squirrel!

I have looked at self-improvement sites, personal development sites and several other sites to help me come up with a list of things I would like to work on developing for the next year.  Nine days of research to figure out what I want to improve. You’d think that I had a mile long list by the end of those nine days.  I have several activities that I would like to complete in the next year, learning Italian, reading more books, taking up some sort of hobby, saving more, spending less…blah blah blah.

But nothing seemed to take on a life of it own or stand out as a “NEEDS IMPROVEMENT” area, but one thing.

That would be my health. While I am in good health…I am obese and have struggled with my weight for the majority of my life (usually from one extreme to another).  With that said, I have decided that this is the year of Health in my life and my health will be my focus of the year.  Over the course of the next year, I will be researching, studying and applying new ways and tips to improve my health and I will be sharing this with you in a special series of posts. I look forward to sharing my adventure of the Year of Health with you.

Cleaning Day!

It was nice today to be able to clean my house in peace.  In that peace, I was able to go through the piles of toys in my son’s room, his summer clothes (that will not fit by next summer), some of his baby blankets and a comforter and sheet set.  I was able to take two full 30 gallon trash bags of “stuff” to Good Will.

While physically cleaning, I had the opportunity to sing out loud and dance around like a fool. I also had the chance to think about what I want in the next year of life. For the past year, I have felt “stuck in a rut” in my personal growth and health.  In the next few posts, I will be writing more about my goals for the next year, including: simplifying and downsizing (even more), becoming more natural, vegetarianism, “one downing” and my personal growth desires.

Today I Turned 38 Years Old

“I have reached an age when, if someone tells me to wear socks, I don’t have to.” Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

My soul laughed when I read this quote as I reflected on my life thus far.  I’m 38 years old and I’m genuinely happy with my life.  I have a wonderful fiance, a handsomly talented four year old and am at a very secure place in my life. It has taken many years to get here and most days I wonder how it happened.

Lets just say that I have not been very “goal oriented” in my life choices.  I have followed my heart and it has taken me down a very nontraditional path or two.  I am an educated scanner. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration, a Masters of Social Work and an MBA.  I am a life long learner, but I have many interests and often feel overwhelmed by the variety that life offers.  Thus is why I am starting this blog, to help me sort through the spices of life to identify what spice mixes work well with the recipes of life.

As it is my birthday, I will be taking a close look at my goals for the next year as I work on “bettering myself” and exploring the world.  These goals will encompass all the major aspects of life and take me into exploring new aspects of myself and my path in life.

I hope you will join me in the journey and look forward to seeing where we are in a year.
